One example - if a musher is to lose time (more likely in a mid or long distances) because of any otside interfierance, he can not be compensated, even so that he would have video material or other reliable proof.
I do believe that helping out other mushers, would e more incouraging, knowing that becase of your actions you will not lose time.
For example http://www.wrc.com/news/ogiers-time-red ... ?fid=18373 in rally the time is compensated.

My opinion and experience is that help a voluntary and free Act has is.
One of my best memories to help someone is the gratitude expresses, and the friendship that it brings.
For me that's worth more than a time or Cup or podium.

If someone will get rewarded for helping someone else and to loose time, i do not think this is in the mind of sportsmanship.

Just my opinion
